There is a free training opportunity for teachers from Northampton this year from the 26th - 28th June.

The Education and Engagement Service will be hosting its next residential UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme. Teachers will experience Parliament first-hand, and then return to their schools and colleges to develop understanding of, and increase engagement with, UK Parliament. Transport, accommodation and most meal costs are covered, and applications are welcome from teachers, school/college leaders and teacher training providers working with young people aged 5-18.

The course includes:

•       Q&A sessions with the Speaker, Lord Speaker and Members of both Houses

•       Talks from subject specialists

•       Workshops devoted to key aspects of the work of UK Parliament

•       Opportunities to explore new and exciting teaching ideas

•       Tours of the Palace of Westminster and the Parliamentary Education Centre

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, said the three-day course “offers a great opportunity for politicians and teachers to share experiences. In my view you are never too young to get involved in democracy and to make things happen – so giving teachers an insight into our world is a great way to pass that message back to the classroom. We also appreciate having the chance to talk to teachers about their experiences, to thank them for their hard work, and to see how we can work together to get children interested in politics”.

100% of teachers said they felt very confident (85%) or confident (15%) teaching about Parliament after attending the programme in January 2023. 100% rated the course as excellent and said they would recommend the Teacher Ambassador Programme to their colleagues.

The Teacher Ambassador 2023 said of this of the event:

“An opportunity to learn, grow and feel inspired. Speaking to experts and getting an insight into the daily workings of Parliament made me appreciate the immense work that goes on behind the scenes. It's a must for all teachers, especially those who teach Citizenship or similar subjects” .

Application forms are available online at UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme:

The closing date is Sunday 19 March 2023.

There can be no question that the economic environment in which the Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt is having to make his budget decisions is immensely challenging. Inflation is still at 10.1%, although down from the 11.1% high of last year.
