Brexit Update: On No Deal

I want to make it clear that I do not want to leave the EU without a deal. It is not my preferred option and I would rather leave with an agreement. The terms of the existing Withdrawal Agreement in its current form are, however, unacceptable to Parliament.

Returning foreign fighters and banning Hezbollah

“My position is clear further to the publicity around Shamina Begum.  Anyone who has left the UK to support terrorist organisations - organisations that seek to cause harm to our citizens and sow hate in our country - is not welcome here.

My response to the draft EU Withdrawal Agreement

I have waited until the Prime Minister's 'Deal' has reached what seems to be an unalterable point - having been agreed by the EU Council - before responding to you in order to be as definitive as possible.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit (UC) is the biggest and most fundamental reform to the welfare state since its creation. It is a modern benefit based on the sound principles that work should always pay and those who need support receive it. It is also fair to taxpayers.

The Future of Post Offices

Post Office branches are relied upon by communities the length and breadth of the country. They serve a distinct social purpose and are a valuable social economic asset for our communities and businesses, forming a cornerstone of British society.

Food Insecurity Bill

The Food Insecurity Bill was introduced under the Ten Minute Rule, which means that in practice it is unlikely to make progress and I would not expect to have an opportunity to vote on it.

Agriculture Bill

Food and farming is a bedrock of our economy and environment, generating £112 billion a year and helping shape some of our finest habitats and landscapes. The Government will continue to commit the same cash total in funds for farm support until the end of this Parliament in 2022.

Don’t block Brexit

I have no intention of stopping, delaying or reversing the UK’s exit from the EU. The British people voted in an historic referendum in 2016 to leave the EU and enable the UK to regain its sovereignty.
