'Partygate' Issue Update

Since my last update there have been further serious developments in the so called ‘Partygate’ issue, including the progress of the police investigation leading to the issuing of fixed penalty notices. I have never been someone who minimises the seriousness of the situation or made an ‘it is just cake’ or ‘it is like a speeding ticket’ type comment.

Speeches in the Commons about this, such as that made by my colleague Steve Baker MP, point to the strength of feeling many Conservative MP’s have and should not be taken lightly, not least by the Prime Minister himself. Before I make decisions about this it remains my intention to wait for the police to conclude their investigation and thus for the full Sue Gray report to be published in its entirety so I am in full possession of the facts.
